de laatste maanden heb ik nog bitter weinig op deze site gepost. Natuurlijk was er wel veel beweging op onze reisblog. Ik start binnenkort met de herwerking van deze site, zodat die wat minder rommelig wordt.
Op reis werden meerdere lenzen en mijn flash gestolen, maar intussen is mijn tas weer compleet en kan ik dus opnieuw aan de slag!

Finally, I finisched selecting the pictures I wanted to post here. From over 1000 pics, I selected some 80 pictures in 4 categories (birds, mammals, people and other)

This friday the photoclub exhibition is opening in Bruges. It is on the Burg square 11 (trough the gate, straight trough and up the stairs.
I am exhibiting 4 of my macro photos.
If anybody wants to buy them, they cost 50 euro's. That is what I paid for the development+ framing...

A few days ago, I put a 2x teleconverter on my 180mm macro lens. It is a bit bulky and heavy, but I had my sturdy gitzo tripod. I went out taking some macroshots in de Warandeputten, a nature reserve nearby. It is amazing how close you can get. The teleconverter isn't the best one can get, but the details are pretty impressive nevertheless. The other plus side is that I could take pictures of butterlies from a few meters away, so the weren't disturbed. Pretty fun to do!

I don't have a lot of time lately to go out for photography. Last week I took pictures of the B.B. King concert in Gent. That was pretty cool.

A long weekend ment a lot of time. Meaning a lot of new pictures. I shot the Bloodprocession (and other) in bruges, I went out for some more macro in Ryckevelde (and proud of the result!) and I took pictures of the bicyclerace in the youthhouse where I work.

a while ago I bought a macrolens from a dyxum-member. I finally got it last week and tried it only once. I really like it because this ens is opening a whole new and tiny world for me. There seem to be bugs everywhere once you look through the viewfinder... I added some pics of this first expedition in macroland.
I hope to get some more free time next month to go out shooting.

busy weekend |

This weekend I went out hunting for pics. Armed with my 140-400mm lens, I biked to Damme along the canal (great tip for a day out by the way!). I saw loads of birds. A funny little winterkoning came very close, so I got some good shots of that one. Today I went to the Polders to see grutto's at work. Those pics will be added soon.

Exhibition ended |

Last week was the final week of my first exhibition. I got a lot of positive reactions, so I'm really exited about it. i hope to be able to expose a bit more often. after all, Pictures are made to be seen, not to be stocked on my hard drive...
Thanks to everybody that havecome to have a look!
Now, I'm lokking for a place to put my pictures. if you would like to have one of my pics in your house, just let me know. I'll rent them out for free!

the spring is in the land!
Last week I have been taking a lot of nature pics. with the 70-200mm + 2x teleconverter I shoot mainly birds. I also rediscovered the joy of macro. I shot some flowers in bruges. Even some bees! I'm glad winter is almost over!

haha what a nice day!
My minolta 5600hs (D) flash arrived this morning around 10. A fine way to wake up!
Around noon, the bell rang again to deliver the long expected sony 2x teleconverter!
Now i can convert my 70-200mm G lens into a 140-400mm G lens :-)
I tried it after work and it worked great! I am really happy. For now I don't need anything else.

Yesterday, my exhibition opened. I invited some friends and family to come and have a look and a drink. I was really happy to see these people watching my work. It works very motivating!
I got some positive reactions and almost no criticism (wich is suspicious). I hope to hear some more remarks and usefull hints.
The exhibition can be seen in De Valkaart in Oostkamp untill 2nd of april. entrance if free and the exhibition is open from 8.30 am till 23 pm.

tonight, the exhibition starts. I had some problem with the printing of the pictures. since my monitor is niot calibrated, I cannot know the exact outcome of colours and brightness of the pictures. I had 6 pictures reprinted. Two of them still aren't the way I wanted them, but alas!I hope to see a lot of people looking at my work and I specially hope to hear some usefull criticism.
I also got the sigma 400mm f5.6 telemacro this week. It is a jewel! I definately will keep this one. I'l put some pictures next week, once pressure has lowered.

The exhibition opens next week.
I had the photo's printed, but half of them were too dark. I guess my monitor was too brught, hence the mistake.
I have to have them reprinted. I hope I will be on time.
I also need more frames (the shop didn't have 12 of the same frames...)
One week to go! I am exited!

on march 5th, I will expose some of my works in the cultural center in Oostkamp, near Brugge. I have to choose 12 works. I find it hard to choose, but I have had a lot of help from friends and family.
In the mean time, the minolta 50mm/f1.4 I ordered has arrived, So I will be selling the 50mm/f1.7

This week I found a teleconverter for my 70-200mm lens in the UK.Since the value of the pound has dropped, you can do bargains over there.
Once I have the converter, I no longer need the sigma 400mm.
So I am waiting for the postman again...

I have ordened all my pictures in Lightroom (photography software). I tagged them with keywords and gave a rating to thousands of pictures. This helps me to organise my collection. In march I get to exhibit some 12 photo's. I find it really hard to choose, but I get help from friends and family.
Today the light was good, so I went out, fully loaded, in the city. It was quite cold, so my hards were freezing off. That was quite hard, but I got some fine pics. I will upload them soon.

Today the postman delivered my long-awaited Markins Q3 Emille ballhead. I immediately tried it and it satisfied all my expectations. It is solid like a rock. the panning base is fluent and the head is easy to use. Can't wait to go and use it outdoors for the first time! Last week I made a padded tripod bag myself, so now I can carry it around easily.

It's been a few weeks since I have my tripod, but now I'm still awaiting my tripod head. It's a markins Q3 Emille. Should be good for my heaviest gear. Though it is small in size, it can support 30kg!

about a week ago, I got this Gitzo g1349 carbon fibre tripod from E-bay. It is the only one that is high enough for me (+2m). I paid 1/4 of the normal price (still a lot!). Today it arrived and it exeeded my expectations in every way. This is solid like a rock, even with full gear: body+vertical grip+ teleconverter+70-200mm lens (about 3kg) is stays still. What a tripod!

Since I am a member of the artists of Oostkamp, I was asked today to expose in march. The expo will be in the cultural centre of Oostkamp, where I work.
By then, I hope I will have enough works. I need 12 good pics. By now, I think I might have 5 or so.

busy weekend |

Last weekend was really busy. I got to take at least 1.000 pictures.
Saturday we got some free tickets for the Disney-on-ice show in Lille(Rijsel), because two of the iceskaters stayed with us in Bruges for two days. They asked me to take pictures of them skating. At first the security took me apart. They thought I was a professional (wink), but then I got permission. though difficult light and rapid movements, I succeeded at getting some fine shots; Using high iso and my new lenses, it turned out really wel.
Sunday I went birdwatching first, then we went to our two families where I took again lots of pictures. They will be online soon.

Last monday, I went to the Bryggia photoclub for the first time. It is nearby and it looks promising. Though I am by far the youngest, I intend to go regulary to learn and share thoughts and hear critics about my pics.
For the moment I am also taking a small course of press-photography by An Nelissen, who's a photographer for "De Standaard" newspaper.
Yesterdaymorning we had to make a series of photo's about one subject. I chose to go to the "Lappersfort" to make a small photo-documentary about the current situation.
It was fun to do! Firts I had a chat with the workers that are building the new road. they were friendly and I got boots for the mud and a security-helmet!
After that, I went to meet some of the eco-activists. They were very friendly too! Though some of them seemed a bit afraid of the camera and didn't want pictures taken.
I got to climb a 12m high treehouse. I felt like David Attenborough, but with trembling knees. I still have to select the pictures. I'll publish them asap.

In Canada I bought some new lenses, since the exchange rate was so good at the moment.
I have enjoyd them during my trip to New-york. Shooting the election-atmosphere was just a wonderful experience. They are worth the cost!

now I still need a descent tripod and for the moment I am awaiting a teleconverter to make the 70-200mm into a 140-400mm. Then I am really settled for the next ten years or so.

Vandaag nog wat foto's gaan nemen in de Warandeputten. IJsvogeltjes, een dodaars en nog wat beestjes kunnen fotograferen. En in de tuin van ons moeder ook nog klein leven gevonden in de planten. Die macrolens is echt leuk!

Gisteren wat kiekjes gaan nemen in de Warandeputten in Oostkamp om de nieuwe macrolens uit te testen. de foto's staan intussen op de site. Puike lens. Scherp, mooie kleuren, puike bokeh... Hier ga ik nog plezier aan beleven. trouwens ook voor 't eerst het ijsvogeltje dat daar zit kunnen fotograferen. Helaas heb ik net iets teveel bewogen. volgende keer statief meedoen...

Koopje gedaan: Minolta AF 35-70 F4 Macro |

Op de rommelmarkt in Brugge gisteren een koopje gedaan.
Een fototoestel van Minolta (Min. 7000) met lens en tas voor 20 euro. Toestel en tas heb ik niet nodig, maar die lens is een mooie aanvulling, aangezien ik nog geen macrolens had.
